Local foods

an Anago Donburi

I think the most famous local food in Miyajima is an Anago Donburi. Anago means conger or sea eel, and around Miyajima Island is a good Anago fishing ground. You know, Japanese people really like eel, and we have a custom to eat eel in the dog days for keep good health in the hot season. Also Japanese people really love conger same as eel, and you know boiled Anago is one of a famous Nigiri-susi(vinegared rice ball with slice of raw fish on top) material.

Anago Donburi is a bowl of rice with boiled slices conger and salty-sweet sauce poured on it. It's hot, soft and mild, but you have to taste true one, becouse it needs fresh conger and tasteful Tare(sauce).
If you ask me, I recommend the F?????ya Anago Donburi restaurant. It's located between the Homotsu-kan(treasure-hall) and the Daisyouin Temple. They always use only fresh conger caught around Miyajima Island and starts to cook after ordered. Also they have had an extraordinarily sauce made from conger bones and soy sauce since.up to eighty years ago. (I don't know how to cook it, because it's a business secret)

An Anago Donburi serves with a cup of sea-shells soup and a small dish of pickled vegetables. If you feel thirsty, how about a bottle of beer with boiled conger's hearts.(Of caurse you have to pay another fee)

If you go there at the lunch time, you have to prepare really long queue, so I recommend to go there a little bit late. It's a little bit high as a lunch, it costs 2300yen, but I believe it's worth a price.
I want to you to taste this traditional local food as a memory in Miyajima. They run every days and between
11 am to 5 pm.

a delicious oyster food

Do you love oyster? You can enjoy some oyster foods in Miyajima Islamd.

It said that, Hiroshima Bay is blessed with some conditions to farm oyster. Above all the sea water flows gently, also the sea water contains a lot of phytoplankton, the water temperature is moderate, and the water contain moderate concentration of salt. .

You can try a grilled oyster easily around the shopping district in Miyajima Island. They are selling them.at a kind of street vender, and many foreigners enjoy to eat them while they are walking. They aren't so expensive, it costs around 100yen to 150yen each. .
